چکیده

Workkow management is emerging as a challenging area for databases, stressing database technology beyond its current capabilities. Workkow management systems need to be more integrated with data management technology, in particular as it concerns the access to external databases. Thus, a convergence between workkow management and databases is occurring. In order to make such convergence eeective, however, it is required to improve and strengthen the speciication of workkows at the conceptual level, by formalizing within a unique model their \internal behavior" (e.g. interaction and cooperation between tasks), their relationship to the environment (e.g. the assignment of work task to agents) and the access to external databases. The conceptual model presented in this paper is a basis for achieving convergence of workkows and databases; the workkow description language being used combines the speciication of workkows with accesses to external databases. We brieey indicate how the conceptual model presented in this paper is suitable for being supported by means of active rules on workkow-speciic data structures. We foresee an immediate application of this conceptual model to workkow interoperability.

Applying a Generic Conceptual Workflow Modeling Technique to Document Workflows

The workflow technology is emerging as an appropriate platform for the automated coordination of business activities. The documents represent the primary medium of business communication. Almost all kinds of business activities have some associated documents. The workflow management systems could be applied to coordinate the flow of business documents. However, before this automated document wo...

Actor-Oriented Design of Scientific Workflows

Scientific workflows are becoming increasingly important as a unifying mechanism for interlinking scientific data management, analysis, simulation, and visualization tasks. Scientific workflow systems are problem-solving environments, supporting scientists in the creation and execution of scientific workflows. While current systems permit the creation of executable workflows, conceptual modelin...

On Correctness Issues in Conceptual Modelling of Workflows

The conceptual modeling of workflows is the first, and arguably the most important, step towards understanding business processes. A well-defined workflow conceptual model leads to the development of an effective and reliable workflow application. This paper presents a graphical modeling technique for workflows. We introduce four graphical modeling objects: task, condition, synchronizer, and fl...

Development of a conceptual model for asthma management system in primary care

Introduction: Asthma is uncontrolled in more than half of asthma patients due to inadequate and incorrect management. The main reasons for inadequate management are non-adherence, inadequate knowledge of a general practitioner about patientchr('39')s clinical condition, and not following asthma management guidelines The purpose of this study was to develop a conceptual model for the asthma mana...
